It's all about the Navigation.

Most NPO's underestimate how much the "user experience" at their website can affect patronage, donations, and volunteering. The truth is, if users can’t navigate around a website easily, your promotion of these initiatives can be compromised. I've learned that paying special care to navigation is a critical part of any web design project.

Open up your existing website and ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you attracting your desired audience to your website?

  • How well does your website call people to action? What keeps visitors from taking the next step?

  • Are you visitors navigating where you want them to? How do you know? What are you doing to make them navigate the way you want them to?

  • How are your online applications tied-in with your "offline" applications? For example, how many contact lists do you have?

  • How do they respond to certain applications or tasks they must conduct online? Are the needs of both the user and business fulfilled?

  • What elements of your current website are helping you to maximize your website's exposure in the community?
